Frequently Asked Questions

Is A Counsellor Also A Psychologist/Psychiatrist?

Counsellors are not medical practitioners, however, they are mental health professionals that are trained to provide you with thorough care. A counsellor's main objective is to create a haven where you feel safe and free to express your rawest experiences and emotions. They are also extensively trained to implement effective therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, that are medically proven to be successful methods of healing.

Is Counselling Covered Under Medicare?

At the current time, unfortunately  Medicare does not provide counselling under their rebate scheme.

Will Anybody Find Out If I Attend Counselling?

Under the ACA Code of Conduct, we are obligated to keep the identity of our clients confidential.

How Many Sessions Until I "Get Better"?

There is no set answer for this. Each individual has their own complex situation that takes no specific course of time to address. The amount of sessions that are required is not set and is completely at the discretion of the client and counsellor.

Is Mental Health Even An Illness?

Mental Health is one of the most overlooked, underestimated forms of illness. It can effect you in so many different ways and is most definitely a medically classified illness. Mental Health should be looked after, maintained and treated as one would their physical health.

When I "Fix My Problem" Do I Have To Come Back?

No one is obligated to come to any sessions at all. Each individual has their own free will, however, once the client has reached a point where they do not feel they need to attend regular sessions anymore, the counsellor will recommend (under no pressure whatsoever) to attend infrequently to prevent any relapses.
